Blog Post #1: “Introduce Yourself”

My name is Brandon Diaz and I’m a senior at Tandon pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Management.

I’m interested in D&T for a number of reasons. For starters, I’ve always been interested in learning the perspective(s) of other people in many different situations. Whether it be in the industry, at school, in day-to-day interactions, I like to understand what leads people to feel excluded and what I can do and say to make sure they don’t feel this around me. The NYU student body has taught me so much more about diversity and inclusion as well as my Organizational Behavior class last semester. My goal is to lead a career in the management / business administration field in the tech industry; continuing my D&T education can better ensure that I will be able to create or help maintain a diverse, inclusive company culture.

The class trip to the Civic Hall definitely interests me. I’m in Chelsea all the time and have never seen this. Would love to check it out as a class.

Both Designing for Diversity and The Aesthetics of Equity interest me greatly.

Book suggestions:

  • Hacking Diversity
  • Asians Wear Clothes on the Internet
  • The Diversity Delusion
